THE ESTATE (The estate maps )
“Tenuta Monte la Guardia” farm holidays, spreading on a surface of 218 hectares, offers several beautiful spots that can be visited reaching them by walking, by horse or by bycicle. The offroad paths that lead to them are convenient to transit and the overall extension of the estate (about 4.000 meters) along with the moderate altitude, make them accessible for excursionists of any age and at any training level. Nothing can stop the visitors from visiting the whole area of the estate at their own pace enjoying nature and regenerating from stress in a “green lung” advised by Natura 2000 as a special protection area. There are four waterfalls in “Tenuta Monte La Guardia”: the “Cascata della Mola”, “Cascata dell’Ospedaletto”, “Cascata di Braccio di Mare” and the “Cascata di Vaccinello”. The “Vaccinello” waterfall is the farthest from the agitourism (3.200 meters). However, the 25-metre fall is spectacular and worth a visit.
The “La Mola” waterfall and the “Ospedaletto” one are close to each other but generated by two different torrents. The fall is about 30 meters and water is always present throughout the year. At the end of the two waterfalls, natural lakes are generated and it’s possible to bathe.
The two torrents flow into each other along with a third one from the Bracciano and Martignano parl, more precisely from the “Caldara di Manziana”.
The water flow is then increased even more and the show of the “Braccio di Mare” waterfall is completed by the natural basin where it is possible to bathe too.
Downhill, in the “Arenile” area, visitors can stop by the allows to stop by the banks and see a small trait of rapids flowing into a tunnel of green vegetation.
The iron mines
Not far away from the waterfalls, inside the “Tenuta Monte la Guardia” area, the rests of the Papal State iron mines are located.
In 1600, in this area, iron coming from the Isola d’Elba used to be processed and transported by boat to the port of Ladispoli and from there, on mule’s back, to our iron mines. At that time, about 100 people used to work in the two buildings that are still visible.
The path used to transport the goods is still passable by our guests.
The Roman Bridge
At the border of the “Tenuta Monte la Guardia” estate, rests of a bridge of the Roman era can be found. Near this bridge, on a later period (1800), another one was built and it is far better preserved. Both of them were part of the road that linked Bracciano to Cerveteri and are located at the top of the “La Mola” waterfall from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
ROMA
It is certainly not up to us to explain in a few lines to our visitors what are the beauties that the Eternal City can offer. We suggest to read specific guides. We just point out that the distance from the city is just 35 km and it can be easily reached by car, train or bus. By request, we can organize customized transfers.
Cerveteri and the Etruscan Necropolis of “La Banditaccia”
The town of Cerveteri, already famous in the Roman age, in 2005 has become an international human heritage thanks to the support of UNESCO. The “Banditaccia” Etruscan Necropolis is the biggest in the Mediterranean area, second only to the Egyptian Pyramids. It is an unique archaeological site where intact testimonies bring back life of the Etruscan people and their particular cult for the dead ones.
The distance from the agritourism “Tenuta Monte della Guardia” is just 17km for visitors that choose to visit the “Banditaccia” Necropolis by car. However we can suggest to reach it by horse or by bycicle or by walking following a 8-kilometer woods path following partly an ancient Etruscan way. The visit to the Etruscan “La Banditaccia” Necropolis is worth at least a day.
Bracciano and its lake
Bracciano is a nice town and it’s only 7 chilometers away from the “Monte la Guardia” agritourism. It is famous for its Odescalchi castle and its lake from which the name Bracciano was taken. The castle is open to the visitors and the ancient village sourrounding it it’s still very well preserved. The Bracciano lake is famous for sailing activities especially because the access to motor boats has been forbidden for many years now.
On its shores there several places can be chosen where it is possible to bathe or suntan laying on the sand. Fishing is permitted with proper permits.
The Bracciano and Martignano park
The protected area is close to the “Tenuta Monte la Guardia” agritourism (8-10 km). It is possible to take a walk over the small Martignano lake and there are big chances to spot wild animals such as boars and mouflons. It is possible to organize on-demand tours for our guests.
The sea- the Tirrenic coast
Only 17 kilometers away from the agritourism “Tenuta Monte la Guardia”, in the town of Ladispoli, it’s possible to access to the Tirrenic Sea beaches. Depending on your needs, you can choose from free beaches to private ones where you can have extra services such as deck-chair rental for reasonable prices
The proximity with A12 motorway makes it possible to travel with extreme ease along the coast and easily reach several spots such as the beautiful area of “Monte Argentario”, at north, from where it’s possible to sail to the spectacular “Isola del Giglio” island.
At south, instead, the towns of Fregene and Maccarese offer large beaches and are renowned in the summer for hosting the roman “movida”.
